I wish I had faith in Fitz to pick the right player, if that player is under 6'1".

I could be wrong but think Schmidt is still on the board at the end of the fourth round. It looks like fitz stuck with bigger guys so far, now just pick the most talented in round 5 and later. If he’s 5’7 and can score, get him in the late rounds and see what happens! Put him on a line with Kermit if he gets knocked around.

Oh man, I was wrong. We took Moe then a few picks later went Schmidt to Dallas. Hey Moe, woo-woo-woo-woo.

Too many small guys. What I fear is that one of your runner-ups drops a round and gets picked. Devils picked small for too many years before Fitz came in and changed the script. One undersized guy, if the talent is to much to ignore. But I fear with those names, three or four guys under 6 foot.

I’m of the opinion that teams should pick players with the most upside regardless of size/positional need/etc. Feels like size is an excuse to draft poorly performing players imo.

BPA seems like the lazy way out of building a team. We agree team is a puzzle that has to fit together to be successful. (Organizations as well). Too many of one piece limits the liklihood of any of them working out at the NHL Level. You are not making 86,63,13 at of the top six, so why draft guys who can only hit if they play in those spots. If the Devils were somehow able to come up with 6 guys better than those three they would need to move 86 because he is not suited to play lower in lineup. Just like years ago Devils lacked RH shooting defensemen. Now they have an over-abundance. Drafts need to be done with a loose vision of what 3-5 years down the road will look like. Just my opinion. But have teams constantly switching from one style to another style doesnt work. For all his flaws. Lou defined Devils hockey. You knew what you were doing stylewise, and he tried to find players for those roles.

Not to say you ignore talent and upside altogether. And I have the belief that in a draft EVERY player should have a potential role in your NHL team's future. IF he doesn't dont draft him. Deal the pick. If you think there is no one below round 4 that can ever help you, deal all the picks for a player or a future pick. Even it the charts say you lost the trade.
